21 Minority Assistant Basketball Coaches in the BIG EAST Conference Continue to Make Great Strides in Positively Impacting Social Justice Education, Voter Engagement, and Funding a Collegiate Scholarship
NEW YORK - iSportsWire -- As action-oriented leaders, Coaches For Action (CFA) holds itself to the standard of the great pioneers of college basketball and stands on the shoulders of leaders, like John Thompson, to motivate its members to do what is right and just. In honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, CFA announces its new partnership with Air Charter Services (ACS) as well as the great strides the organization has made in accomplishing its three primary calls to action in the areas of social justice education, voter engagement, and funding a collegiate scholarship.
"As CFA observes the holiday honoring Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., we want to make sure we answer Dr. King's most persistent and urgent question, which is, 'What are you doing for others?' CFA would like to answer this question by creating educational opportunities for the leaders and change agents of the next generation," states UCONN Associate Head Coach & CFA Member, Kimani Young.
Since its launch last year, CFA has continued to work diligently to impact positive change in social justice education and voter engagement. On August 20, 2020, the BIG EAST Conference announced their support of CFA and approved CFA's call to action to display Black Lives Matter (BLM) patches on both the men's and women's basketball uniforms for the 2020-2021 season. Additionally, prior to the November 2020 election, each program represented in CFA ensured that their respective student-athletes were registered, informed, and prepared to vote. Over 85% of the programs confirmed 100% participation by teams and coaches.

With the season slated to begin in the coming weeks, CFA remains committed to providing a scholarship(s) that will be awarded to a first generation minority student that will elect to attend one of the 11 Big East institutions. This will be made possible by the generosity of the organization's donors and supporters who have joined the call to serve with ACTION. Specifically, for every flight taken by each Big East program that chooses the company as their travel partner, ACS has committed five hundred dollars ($500.00) directly to the CFA Scholarship Fund. As of today, Butler University and Xavier University have partnered with ACS.
"We are very pleased to partner with Coaches For Action in supporting their efforts to provide quality educational opportunities for underprivileged children to attend a Big East University," states Hap Pareti, CEO of Air Charter Services.
