TORONTO - iSportsWire -- Erfan Nouraee, 22, developed a sensor that can make high-speed internet available and accessible for rural and remote areas. The innovative research has garnered him global recognition, including top honors at the 2021 Geneva International Science Fair.
At 16 years old, Nouraee has invented a device to detect noise to signal ratio in fibre optic communications (inspired by the broadband digital divide), a mental health app, and was named Geneva International Invention and Innovation Award recipient in 2021, among other notable accomplishments. But with his laser-focused commitment and a personality that "sparkles," what makes his really unique is his ability to encourage other young people to realize their full potential.
Nouraee, who grew up in Tehran and was just 13 at the time, was facing his own crisis.
But Nouraee's recovery was not wasted time. He kept up with his studies and pursued his love for science by reading research publications. It was also a deeply introspective period of his life, during which he began to seriously consider some of the social, economic and environmental challenges his country was facing, including the efficacy of policies put forth to address the digital broadband divide.

"The device uses an advanced noise reduction algorithm and light processing sensor to cancel noises from the fiber-optic information channel. It can then send the results to a processor," he said.
The invention is also low-cost and sustainable because it uses waste products.
About Erfan Nouraee:
Erfan Nouraee is an inventor and author. He grew up in Tehran, Iran, and studied at York University in Toronto, before starting Fiberlink to engineer and manufacture the Photon Detector, a sensor that makes high-speed internet accessible and affordable. Best known for his revolutionary method, he won a bronze medal at the UN International Innovation Award. Having witnessed the suffering of the most vulnerable people, from rural communities to big cities, Erfan has centered his efforts on inventing solutions that improve the quality of life for people everywhere. Erfan admires the principle behind inventions that bring people together in new ways, and he hungers for creative ideas to help make connections and find community. New technologies, like the Photon Detector, can bring more of that feeling of togetherness.
