SCHAUMBURG, Ill. - iSportsWire -- Mondo today announced that it has established the Lauren McCluskey Memorial Mondo Scholarships. The scholarships will be awarded to one male and one female track and field student-athlete at the University of Idaho annually for a minimum of three academic years, starting with 2023-2024.
The scholarships honor the late Lauren McCluskey, a 21-year-old track and field athlete at the University of Utah who was murdered in 2018 by an ex-boyfriend. She grew up near the University of Idaho and often trained on the indoor track at its Kibbie Dome.
"Mondo created these scholarships to recognize Lauren's contributions to the sport of track and field," said Phil Esposito, business and brand development manager, Mondo. "She was a Washington state champion in the high jump and ranked 10th in the heptathlon at the USATF Outdoor Junior Championships, so these scholarships in her name exemplify Mondo's passion for helping others achieve outstanding results, break records and overcome limits."

Last year, McCluskey's parents donated $1 million to the University of Idaho, designating the funds be used to upgrade the Kibbie Dome's indoor track. The newly installed Mondo track, which features Mondo's Super X surface, was named the Lauren McCluskey Track. A dedication ceremony will take place today before its inaugural competition, the Lauren McCluskey Memorial Open.
