PORTLAND, Ore. - iSportsWire -- Running is a great way to get healthy-- if you don't get injured and quit. Portland, Oregon-based Flower Power Health supports everyday runners, especially women in their 30's, 40's, and beyond. This summer, the Run Forever Program will enroll its first recreational runners seeking to enjoy the health benefits of running for life.
Women runners are having a moment. Keira D'Amato and Sara Hall, both mothers in their late 30's, broke major American records this year. This show of strength from women who might have once been considered "too delicate" has inspired regular people to get more active.
Running helps people to process emotions, regain fitness, and find community. Running fills spaces opened up by pandemic-era working from home, changing jobs, and leaving gyms behind. For some, close encounters with death and illness have given health a new urgency. In 2022, running isn't just for elite athletes-- it's for everyone. As more people take up running or return after time away, however, they are also facing more injuries, fatigue, and questions about how running impacts their health.

Flower Power Health's founder, Elizabeth Knight, is a health and wellness coach with a PhD in nursing. She coaches runners through a health-focused lens. "People who want to feel great, avoid injury, and enjoy the benefits of running forever need to develop consistent healthy habits in all areas of their lives, not just out on the trails," says Knight. "Most people know what they need to do to feel good, it's finding how to make it work in their own lives that's the biggest challenge. Coaching helps with that."
Unlike most online coaching services, Flower Power Health doesn't provide cookie-cutter training plans for finishing a race. Instead, clients meet with their coach for 1:1 sessions focused on identifying values, goals and action steps that are meaningful and manageable. They get individual guidance from a health professional focused on core areas of health including nutrition, sleep, and stress management, in addition to running. Says Knight, "This support is especially valuable to runners who might never have considered hiring a coach before because they thought they weren't serious enough about running. Coaching can help anyone meet their goals, no minimum experience required."
